ROUSH Bringing Propane-Powered Mustangs to Drag Strips (Gas2.org)

"Conventional drag racing is pretty much the furthest thing from a green sport, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the hell out of it. Yet even this tire-melting, gas-wasting sport is diving into the realm of alternative fuels for a variety of reasons.

"Roush, a leading builder of aftermarket Mustangs, is developing two Mustangs for the drag strip powered not by gasoline, but clean-burning propane.

"Roush is best known for its high powered Mustang, but they also dabble in propane fuels already. They have propane conversion kits for Ford F-150 pickup trucks and vans, and they are finally cross-breeding this technology with their racing pedigree."

Jack Roush Jr Blog: The End of the New Beginning (Modified Mustangs & Fords)

"The 2009 KONI Challenge series came to a close earlier this month. We started our new No. 61 ROUSH/Valvoline Mustang team this year under the banner of Horsepower Ranch. With it came plenty of challenges, especially on the side of bizarre mechanical problems: a failed brake line, a loose wheel, failed suspension parts (three separate times), etc.

"However, looking over this season our new team has done very well and I'm proud of what we have accomplished in these ten short months. We've run very well at most every track that we've been to this season. This could not be more clearly seen than in the string of podium finished that we had late in the season: a third place finish that we had at Barber, followed by a second place finish at Trois-Rivieres, followed by a win at Miller. There was also that second place finish in our very first race as a team at Daytona, and another third in the season-finale at VIR, although that was taken away with a 45-second penalty when Billy Johnson, my co-driver, was accused of blocking. It was, in my opinion, unjust, but the officials still slapped us with a penalty and officially we were scored in ninth, though we crossed the line third."

Roush and Mustang Go Way Back (RacingOne)

JackImpericalCarSign377x283jpg "CONCORD, N.C. - Dating back to 1964, the Ford Mustang has been a big part of Jack Roush's venture into racing and now he's a big part of Ford's next chapter with the American pony car with the 2010 Mustang NASCAR Nationwide Series car.

"Roush's love for the Mustang started in 1964 when he purchased one after graduating from Berea College in Kentucky. Shortly after, Roush went to work for the Ford Motor Company in the Dearborn assembly plant where he worked on quality problems with components that vendors were sending in.

" 'As I was graduating and I went down to the local Ford dealer, who had sold his allocation, and he communicated with a dealer in Cincinnati and a month after I went to work for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit I came back to Cincinnati and picked up my 64 and a half Mustang,' Roush said."

ROUSH Drag Racer Bowles Captures NMRA Hot Street Championship

BowlesBG377x283 ROUSH®/Valvoline Post-Race Report - NMRA Drag Racing Series @ Beech Bend Raceway

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Although the weekend was bookended on both ends by wet weather, the ROUSH® Drag Racing Team took care of business and put their stamp on a very successful 2009 NMRA Ford Nationals racing season which concluded with the October 1-5 at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Don Bowles is the only competitor on the ROUSH® Drag Racing Team that races a heads-up class - Hot Street. This is a class that features the most technologically-advanced, small-block Ford engines around, assembled by the best builders on the planet. During the course of the 2009 season, Bowles has been immersed in a points battle with the 2008 class champion, fellow ROUSH® Competition Engines customer Robbie Blankenship. This battle came down to the final event of the year, as Bowles started to find his groove with the ’72 Maverick he debuted at the season-opening race.

Jack Roush Jr. Blog: 3-2-WON! (Modified Mustangs & Fords)

"We've been on quite a roll lately in KONI Challenge competition. Two races ago Billly Johnson (my co-driver) and I finished third at Barber Motorsports Park. Then we finished second at Le Circuit de Trois Rivieres. As we headed into Miller Motorsports Park a couple of weeks ago, the hope was high that we could continue moving up the podium steps.

"Well, as some of you may have heard, the No. 61 ROUSH/Valvoline Mustang did win the KONI Challenge event at Miller Motorsports Park on September 18. It was great to get the first win both for myself in the KONI Challenge, as well as the first win for our new Horsepower Ranch team. The guys on the team have worked very hard all year, and though we've been running very well a number of times, small (and often hard to prevent) mechanical failures stopped our run short or prevented us from running as fast as we were able. Lately, we've seemed to work through all those gremlins and the car has been fast - and reliable - on the racetrack."

Roush, Johnson Garner Last Lap Victory in Grand-Am KONI Challenge's Salt Lake City 200 At Miller Motorsports Park

Miller1-377x283

TOOELE, Utah - In a seesaw battle with the defending race winning driver and team Friday at Miller Motorsports Park, Billy Johnson passed Bill Auberlen for the final time in Turn 1 of Lap 46 - the final lap of the two-and-a-half hour Salt Lake City 200 (SPEED, 1:30 p.m. ET, Oct. 3) - and held off the 2008 winner by 1.095 seconds to earn his second Grand Sport (GS) victory of 2009 and the first ever for co-driver Jack Roush Jr.

Johnson, who joined the Horsepower Ranch team in June at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, regained the lead with an inside pass of Auberlen, kept Auberlen at bay for the first-ever win for Horsepower Ranch. Johnson also won in March at Homestead-Miami Speedway, driving for Motorsport Technology Group.

The race, which started under bright skies and in 80-degree temperatures, ended in near pitch-black conditions - albeit the 30-plus headlights navigating the 4.486-mile course and flashes of lightning south of the track.
